What fabric to make a wedding dress from: satin, mikado, silk and lace

Fabric decides half the look: the same cut in satin and in tulle comes out completely different. Here are the main fabrics we make wedding dresses from.

Satin

A dense, smooth fabric with a soft sheen. It holds its shape, falls beautifully in mermaid silhouettes and straight dresses, and follows the figure. Satin is the choice for anyone who likes restrained, quiet luxury without extra decoration.

Mikado

A dense suiting satin with a matte surface and a light texture. It holds voluminous silhouettes superbly - A-lines and ball gowns, clean architectural shapes. Mikado reads as expensive and contemporary, especially in minimal designs.

Natural silk

Light, flowing, breathable. Ideal for outdoor ceremonies and summer weddings: the dress literally pours over the figure. Silk is the most premium fabric and the most demanding to work with, which is why it costs more.

Tulle and organza

Airy sheer fabrics for volume: full skirts, layered trains, light capes and veils. They give that cloud-like effect and a romantic silhouette.

Lace

Less a fabric than a decoration: lace is used on the bodice, the sleeves, the back, the hem. Attaching lace by hand and embroidery are the most labour-intensive part of the work, and the part that makes the dress unique.

How fabric affects the price

The class of fabric is one of the main factors in the cost. Classic fabrics already give a fine result; premium ones (mikado, heavy satin) and natural silk cost noticeably more. How the fabric you choose changes the price of your dress is something we work out at the consultation.
