Have a wedding dress made, or buy one ready?

A ready-made dress from a salon, or one made to order - each route has its merits. Here is the comparison without the marketing.

A ready-made dress

In its favour: you can try it on immediately, take it away sooner, and sometimes it costs less at the outset.

Against: other brides have the same dress; the fit is whatever it turns out to be and almost always needs altering; the choice is limited to what hangs on the rail in your size.

Made to order

In its favour: the dress is created for your figure and your look, and no one else will have it; you take part at every stage; the fit is exact after the fittings.

Against: it takes time (usually one and a half to three months); the price is worth understanding in advance.

And the price?

The difference is smaller than it seems. A designer ready-made dress and a made-to-measure one often land in the same range. The difference is that for the same money, made to order gives you a one-off design with an exact fit rather than one piece from a run.
