Chani

Chani is built on volume: the corset with its deep V neckline sits close and holds the waistline, and from there the skirt opens out in large folds. The fabric is springy - it does not cling to the figure but stands in a shape of its own, so the silhouette reads from a distance. As you step the folds shift slightly and change their pattern, and the light runs unevenly over them, from dense white on the curves to almost transparent against the light.

The draping is gathered by hand, fold after fold, each secured so the volume does not sink over the course of the evening. On one shoulder the fabric rises in a full wave - the asymmetry draws the eye to the open line of the neck and leaves the other shoulder and the back bare. The back falls away in a deep neckline to the waist, and below it the main body of the skirt begins. The train carries the same work with the cloth and spreads across the ground in a wide fan, while a long veil over it adds a transparent layer with the folds showing through.
