Shadout

Shadout runs close to the figure: the corset gathers the line of the bust and waist, the hips stay in a clean outline, and below the openwork opens into a wide skirt with a train. Standing still the dress reads almost graphically, as one unbroken line from shoulder to floor. In motion it is the lower half that works: the openwork panels of the train follow you and settle into soft waves the moment you stop. A detachable train of fine sheer fabric fastens at the shoulders and is caught by the wind - it gives volume to the shot, and without it the silhouette becomes narrow again.

The base is an openwork pattern with a large botanical design set on a nude lining, so it reads directly against the skin. On the bodice the pattern is joined by pearl embroidery running in rays from the centre, following the curve of the cups, and continuing down the stomach in threads of different calibres. Pearl drops fall from the shoulders - several tiers of strands instead of sleeves; they move with your arms and catch the light apart from the fabric. The back is deeply open to the waistline; a sheer panel with a concealed fastening runs along the spine, and over the shoulder blades pearl strands repeat the pattern of the front, so the view from behind stands on its own. Sleeves of fine sheer fabric in a skin tone reach onto the forearms and leave the shoulders bare.
